About Us

Libertas Agritech

is a subsidiary venture of Sealdah Seeds House which aims to operate by the motto of “Liberating our nations farmers” from perpetual hardships related to malnutrition, financial insecurity and predatory marketing of
immoral business ventures in the various realms of Agro- industry. The parent company “Sealdah Seeds House” started its business as a humble seed producer and supplier, and over the decades it has gained immense reputation by maintaining standard quality vegetable seeds which are provided to the farmers in affordable prices. Through decades of hard work the company has initiated its new venture “Libertas Agritech” strictly run and supported by fresh Ph.Ds and graduates in the fields of Agriculture. Within a short span of time the venture has developed new hybrids related to vegetables, Rice, Maize, oilseeds etc. The hybrids were developed from the new Research and Development wing located at Andhra Pradesh and are currently in the process of registration under the Plant Variety Protection and Farmer’s Right Act, 2002. The various seeds of hybrids and Hyvs are produced and processed with utmost precision at our production sites in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka, following which they are provided to the farmers at affordable price in order to stick to the ethical commitments maintained by the parent company over the years.

Our Vision

Freedom is our birth right; we serve by the motto of liberating the nation’s farmers and in turn uphold the notion of Liberty equality and Fraternity.

Our Research and Development

Hybridization

Hybridization is the mating or crossing of two plants or lines with different genetic constitutions. In plants, pollen grains from one genotype (male parent) are placed on the stigma of flowers from the other genotype (female parent). Hybridization is the first step towards creating genetic diversity in a population, which can be exploited for selecting new genotypes possessing a desirable genetic constitution useful to a plant breeder. Furthermore, the hybridization process is directly utilized for obtaining heterotic F1 hybrids which exhibit superior vigour and yield advantage over commercially available open-pollinated check varieties. Here in Libertas, our field staffs possess years of experience in conducting crossing programs related to different field crops as well as vegetables. Hybrid production programs are performed with delicate precision, for ensuring maximum genetic purity among the hybrid products. Furthermore, our breeders use their years of practical experience in selecting desirable parental lines, which are hybridized for generating new research varieties, as well as for selecting superior hybrid cross combinations.

Plant Breeding Programs

Here in Libertas agritech, Plant Breeding is the heart of our Research and Development program. Our breeders in coordination with market experts and research institutions aim at obtaining the best varieties, which are developed to satisfy the producer’s/ end user’s demand. Conventional breeding supported by precise genomic selection is performed for obtaining new varieties of OP as well as hybrids which can exhibit superior tolerance towards biotic stresses, namely insects, pests and pathogens; along with abiotic stresses like salinity, drought, submergence, frost, etc. Furthermore, to ensure that the farmers can achieve maximum profitability from their produce, here in Libertas our researchers pay extra attention to various quality parameters, like fruit colour, sweetness, earliness, etc. for the various fruit and vegetable varieties. Similarly, for cereals, our breeders are devoted towards fulfilling the market demand in terms of various quality parameters for field crops like rice, maize, wheat, etc. After the development of a new variety, the product undergoes rigorous trial programs across different target areas all over the nation, and only the best varieties are selected for commercial production and consequent marketing. In the end, our one and only goal is to ensure that our farmers are satisfied with the crop they produce and can achieve maximum return on their investment in each cropping season.

Tissue culture facility

Currently, Libertas is on the verge of completing a major tissue culture facility that will serve the primary purpose of developing disease-free potato tubers along with banana planting materials using shoot and meristem culture, etc. Also, the facility will focus on developing disease-free clean planting materials for commercially important orchids like Dendrobium.
